EXCITING NEWS! – Tessa Sanderson launches search for Olympic Champions in the Midlands
The Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy (TSFA) already supports 77 youngsters of exceptional potential in London and the South East. Now Tessa is launching a search to find local young athletes in her native West Midlands to follow in her footsteps to the Tokyo 2020 Games and beyond.
Tessa will host the launch event in her home town at the Grand Station Conference Centre, Sun Street, Wolverhampton WV1 1AA this Wednesday 5 March 2014 from 12noon-2pm.
Local school head teachers, sports and youth club leaders, councillors and local Members of Parliament have been invited to the event which will be presented by Tessa. She will also be available for media interviews on the day.
Tessa said: “I am a proud Midlander myself and I know that there is no shortage of talent to be discovered here – just a shortage of support to help realise that talent and to give these young people the same chance that I was so fortunate to have been able to take.
“The TSFA provides access to experienced and specialist sports coaches, financial help to purchase proper equipment and travel costs to training and competitions.
“Many of our young people have become county champions and national titleholders in their age group.
“We believe that within our current Academy there are several youngsters capable of reaching Olympic and Paralympic level and I am excited to extend that opportunity to young people of talent, drive and ambition in the Midlands.”
The Foundation also has plans to renovate and redevelop the listed Heath Town Baths building in Wolverhampton from its former status as a swimming pool into a state-of-the-art sports centre catering for all sections of the local community. It is hoped that this will become the Midlands hub of the Academy.
